Cellular ECG transmissions save lives.

چکیده
W hen a person suffers a heart attack, the best clinical outcomes are achieved when he or she is treated within two hours of the onset of acute symptoms. Yeatment benefits decline as further time elapses. Health care providers have instituted various communications and medical strategies to reduce the time between onset and treatment. Among these strategies arc patient education initiatives, specific clinical protocol development for emergency departments (EDs), and the trajismission of preadmission electrocardiogram (ECG) tracings from emergency medical services (EMS) vehicles to EDs.

Towards Ventricular Arrhythmia Prediction from ECG Signals
The Problem Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is one of the main causes of sudden cardiac death in the Western world. It is a type of arrhythmia that causes the heart to beat chaotically, rendering it unable to pump blood. VF is usually preceded by ventricular tachycardia (VT), which is another type of arrhythmia that also constitutes a medical emergency. It is crucial for the patient to receive im...
متن کاملAdding an electrocardiogram to the pre-participation examination in competitive athletes: a systematic review.
No matter how rare, the death of young athletes is a tragedy. Can it be prevented? The European experience suggests that adding the electrocardiogram (ECG) to the standard medical and family history and physical examination can decrease cardiac deaths by 90%. However, there has not been a randomized trial to demonstrate such a reduction. While there are obvious differences between the European ...
متن کاملCancer Care in Developing Countries: Does Early Detection Truly Save Lives?
Background:“Early detection save lives” is a common and almost universal slogan for promoting cancer screening world-wide. Doubtlessly, early detection of cancer can save lives when the detection is followed with appropriate interventions. Conversely, when early detection is not followed with appropriate intervention(s), then it becomes effort in futility. Therefore, we are advocating that the ...
متن کامل"Save lives" arguments might not be as effective as you think: A randomized field experiment on blood donation.
OBJECTIVES Many communication campaigns to encourage people to give blood rely on "save lives" messages, even though there is no experimental evidence as to the effectiveness of this kind of argument with respect to blood donation. The objective of this study is to test experimentally if it is indeed an effective way to prompt people to give blood, in order for communication campaigns to be evi...
متن کاملA wavelet transform coupled with a fuzzy neural network for prediction of significant st segmental changes in the ecg.
The leading cause of death in the United States for people 65 and over is heart disease. A significant factor contributing to this disease process is the damage caused by an infarction, which can manifest as an abnormality in the ST segment of an Electrocardiogram (ECG). This research will develop a pattern recognition model that will be capable of detecting these critical changes. This model w...
